Planning our Music Video

Picking the song
After we deciphered who our band is and what they are like, we chose a song that we thought would be the best to represent them and be their style of music. We chose 'Sons and Lovers - Lover' The song is very important so it took a lot of consideration, but after looking at the lyrics and listening to the song a couple of times we decided that it was the right song.
We searched many websites to try and find a song and a band as we wanted an indie rock band that is not very well known. We came across a YouTube channel called 'The Hyve' which focuses on indie bands and artists and is where we found our band.

Looking back on our Documentary
In order for me to come up with my first ideas I recapped on our documentary as it gave us a really good grasp on what we wanted to include in our music video. By recapping on our documentary it refreshed my memory on what the main codes and conventions of our genre were so that I knew what ideas to stick with and which ideas work well with our genre. I also pulled out main elements that I thought would suite an idea and what would create a good idea.

First Ideas
After choosing our song we decided on a few first ideas to help us get started. I found that I mainly focused on having a relationship, injury, isolation and alcohol as these were common themes and elements that we found when analysing our research. I also thought about having flashbacks as a non-chronological narrative was common in indie rock videos and makes it more interesting while revealing snippets of the plot without giving too much away, creating enigma.

Our Main Idea
From looking at the lyrics of the song and merging both of our first ideas, we came up with a final idea that we thought goes well with the song and our genre, also appealing to our target audience.
