The Importance of Music Videos

In class we discussed music videos and music channels and their significance for artists. We mainly looked at MTV for a music channel and how it was the first music channel to be created, as it showed us that the music industry is ever changing and so is its audiences, meaning over the years MTV had to change and develop to appeal to audiences and the times. 
There are now many, many different music channels catering to different genres and audiences, but a problem that music channels now have is technological convergence as technology is ever developing, meaning that audiences can use YouTube or the artists website to watch the music video. But on the other hand, it is easier for audiences to watch their favourite videos and also gives the artist more recognition. 

Shown by the mind map, one can see that there are some genre music channels that are more dominant than others, for instance, mainstream/charts genre has more channels than Indie or Rock genre channels.
